Burke VA History
Burke, Virginia is a town in Fairfax County . It is named after Silas Burke (1796–1854), a farmer who lived in the area. Silas Burke arrived in Fairfax County, Virginia in 1829 as a member of the first Wilkes Expedition dispatched by then President John Quincy Adams. He was a surveyor and cleared the tract of land that became the site of Gainsborough Farm. During the civil war, a railway station in Burke was attacked by union troops, and the union seized supplies.
